International Women’s Day Blog Link Up announcement

International Women’s Day is coming up and I thought it would be grand to host a blog link up of all your thoughts on womanhood and equality! I am ALL ABOUT this annual day to celebrate the momentous strides that have been taken towards real justice for women, and to point out the areas that need loads more work. A link up could provide some inspiration and put awesome bloggers who care about this stuff in touch with each other.

Because as Gloria Steinem says;

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”

Every one of us has something to contribute to this global day, each voice can be part of the celebration and every reader party to the discussion about what more needs to be done.

So I invite your lovely selves to write and then link up on March 8th. If you don’t blog but want to participate email me on lulasticblog@gmail.com and I will post on your behalf.

You can link up absolutely any post on a woman-y theme but if you are stuck for inspiration here are some possible topics. I’d love to read your thoughts on one of these:

  • Who is your female hero or role model?
  • What things need to be addressed before we can ever hope for gender equality?
  • What issue is facing women that you feel really passionate about?
  • A letter to your kid about gender equality

Once written add the image above and link to this post (currently unpublished but it is where the link up will live) come over here and add your post to the list.

If you are looking for more ways to mark the occasion there are lots of possibilities. Host an Oxfam Get Together – it doesn’t have to be a baking or pampering based evening as the posters seem to suggest (!) it COULD be a book club, a debate, a cycle ride. Take a visit to the incredible Women of The World exhibition at the South Bank or search ze old vide VORLD for events happening close to you.

Have you got an event planned?

PS Picture is by Sarena Kirk and is called Celebrating Women Helping Women.

PPS I’d hate for you to miss a post… enter your email to get them pinged into your inbox. I won’t be spamalot, promise!

    Very good post Lucy! My mum is my role model as she has such a strong personality and is very generous in spreading her love around. She is 65 this year and she is still working, even though she has dicky knees! And she does a very hard job as well!
    Not equal workpay in the workplace is one issue that really has to be addressesd. And the goverment and corporations need to realise, that in some cases the only main breadwinner is a woman!
    When I eventually get back to work I want to do mechanical work, as I dont do paperwork, tillwork and I used to be a chef. So I know all about the naff working hours! Also if a woman is working or wants to work the goverment should be with them all the way to get them back in the workplace! Do the goverment actually know how much it costs to send a child to nursery, after school etc…..
    And women should be treat as equals, so get lost with wanting a shirah law to be introduced. Sorry but I am quite a feminist!
