We have a magazine coming to our house to take pictures in a few weeks time, Pretty Nostalgic, the prettiest, newest wee vintagey mag on the shelf. Jim’ll TOTALLY fixed it for me as the night before it got arranged I was lying in bed thinking how much I would like some photos of some of the corners of our home that we have poured a bit of ourselves into, the spaces where we have taken someone’s nasty old scraps and given them new life. I am SO excited!
We have started tidying up in preparation, and, blimey, getting tidy is a bit addictive isn’t it? I did that toy shelf, moved onto the mantel piece, started in the kitchen, gosh, soon I’ll have OCD and will be hoovering once a week!!! (Oh, most people do that? For real? Once a DAY, you say? Ah. *awkward smile*) 
The mantelpiece is one of those areas that is kind of a centrepiece of the room but still manages to be The Primary Magnet of Remnants. Keys, wallets, loo roll, it all ends up on there. Since sorting it out, whenever Tim tries to put anything down on there, like his cup of coffee, I am like “Er, is it red? No? Oh, well, bummer, it doesn’t fit the theme. Move on, please, move right along.”
One of the easiest ways to make odd collections of things look nice is by grouping them in vague colour themes.
I love nothing more than having fresh flowers around the house. I have searched high and low for some reasonably priced red tulips to go in this enamel jug but my inner cheapskate got the better of me and blossom from our backyard bush had to do.
Tim found this beautiful old red chair yesterday, just dumped on the street. 
We have about 63 too many chairs in this house, it is one thing we can’t turn down when we walk past them, lonely and neglected on street corners. We should really start a chair hospital.

Er, corners I’m proud of? hmmm, well, er…there was that…er, no. Damn it! Your house is all cool and bohemian and any discarded toilet rolls probably just look like they’re waiting to be turned into something organic and fabulous. I TRY really bloody hard to keep the place looking presentable, but we’re really outgrowing the place and there’s just too many small bits of toys everywhere. I am really jealous of the fact that you are obviously able to display things properly. Anyway, love your vignettes (blog word triple score!) and thanks for the heads up about the new magazine, sounds worth checking out. Has it launched already? When will you be in it?

ps. Once a week is a loosely attainable goal re: hoovering I find. My mother in law used to hoover herself backwards out of the house when she went on holiday – bonkers.

Blimey, we NEVER see furniture discarded on the street, certainly nothing as lovely as this chair! London is obviously the place to be for finding abandoned stuff – Bath streets and skips yield nothing more than bits of plasterboard and tiles… probably because the 2nd hand furniture shops get there before us! You have inspired me to dig out lots of things I inherited from my granny’s kitchen, but how do I negotiate space for them with a minimalist husband who wants nothing on display and doesn’t even want handles on our kitchen cupboards?! Let the negotiations commence…
Oh lmao again – no handles on the cupboards? So funny, and, yes, that does present a challenge. One I’m sure you’re up to!

Thank you! We had a tyre in our garden for a while but had to lose it as it took up most of the yard ha. Have you snazzied them up with some paint or anything?
If and when it stops raining I’m going to paint big flowers On them. This is the plan anyway. It’s always a bit slap dash with me!

I can’t wait to buy that mag and have a nosey at your gaff! If ever I look at pictures that someone who inspires me has taken I always look at the background and wish the photo would go a foot further in any direction so I could have more of a nosey! I especially like how normal (dust, empty mugs, pile of post etc) photos in blogs often appear and make me feel normal for not hoovering or tidying everyday (or week :-/) either! So exciting……….about the mag shoot and a new mag available to buy also…………… X

Ah, this was my husband’s eye, a good eye, it sees things most well.
I wish I could say I too have a home for it, currently trying to squeeze it in where it doesn’t quite fit!

Wow that is so beautiful it really makes me want to hit some local car boots and charity shops for little treasures!! I’ve recently become a single parent so have a whole house to redecorate more into a style of my own and this is a really pretty idea!!! with you totally on the hoovering : ) and love that chair! used to love peeking in skips for treasure but haven’t seen one for ages – did find some old terracotta pipes in a ditch the other day though (football retrieval) exciting prospects!
